Bamaga Airport – Aviation Refuelling Facility

Overview

Haz-Elec Industries was engaged to deliver the electrical power and control systems for the new aviation refuelling facility at Bamaga Airport, working in partnership with NQ Petro as the principal responsible for tank, plant and piping installation. The facility was designed as a multi-purpose refuelling depot capable of receiving bulk aviation fuel deliveries and dispensing fuel to aircraft via automated dispenser and underwing hose reel systems.

Scope of Works

  • Design and fabrication of a new Motor Control Centre (MCC).
  • Onsite installation and commissioning of all associated electrical equipment, cabling and support systems.
  • Integration of automated dispensing systems including account validation and transaction management.
  • Installation of bulk metering and operator deadman control systems for underwing refuelling operations.
  • Completion of Hazardous Area Classification and development of a full Hazardous Area Verification Dossier in accordance with AS/NZS 60079.14.
  • Engineering design, project management, electrical installation, detailed EEHA inspections and statutory hazardous area audit.

Key Outcomes

Delivered in a remote North Queensland location, the project was completed safely, on time and incident-free. Haz-Elec’s robust HSEQ systems ensured full compliance with NQ Petro and NPARC safety requirements while providing a reliable, automated and compliant refuelling facility supporting critical regional aviation operations. The project demonstrates Haz-Elec’s capability in hazardous area installations, control systems integration and remote project delivery.
