Glencore – Power Station Refuelling Facility

Overview

Located 140 kilometres northwest of Mount Isa, Glencore’s Lady Loretta Mine produces some of the highest-grade zinc ore in the region. To support reliable power generation for this remote underground operation, Haz-Elec Industries was engaged to design and implement upgrades to the mine’s power station refuelling facility and associated control systems.

Scope of Works

  • Development of the functional specification for the facility management control system.
  • Programming and configuration of the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PAC and SCADA system (FT View SE platform).
  • Integration of a standby fuel tank and second refuelling circuit to supply new 2.2MVA generator units.
  • Implementation of system functionality for simultaneous tank operation, auto-switching of pump and tank duties, and full alarm/event logging capability.
  • Commissioning and validation in compliance with Glencore’s process and safety requirements.

Key Outcomes

Haz-Elec delivered a fully integrated and compliant control upgrade that enhanced the refuelling facility’s reliability, automation and operational visibility. The solution provided Glencore with improved fuel circulation management and generator redundancy, ensuring continuous power supply for critical mine operations. The project showcased Haz-Elec’s capability in control systems engineering, automation, and on-site commissioning within complex industrial environments.
