Metro Mining – Ikumba Offshore Floating Terminal Cable Upgrade

Overview

Haz-Elec Industries was engaged by Metro Mining to deliver a critical electrical infrastructure upgrade on the Ikumba offshore floating bauxite terminal. The project was executed during a tightly programmed three-month shutdown and focused on improving the reliability and resilience of power distribution systems servicing key ship loading equipment in a challenging marine environment.

Scope of Works

  • Installation of new heavy-duty cable ladders and structural support systems suitable for marine conditions.
  • Installation and termination of new steel wire armoured (SWA) motor supply cables.
  • Removal and replacement of existing cabling to improve asset reliability and maintainability.
  • Coordination and execution of complex offshore cable installation works at sea.
  • Integration, testing and return-to-service commissioning of upgraded circuits.

Key Outcomes

Delivered offshore and at sea, the project required careful planning, specialist access arrangements and close coordination with multiple contractors to meet strict shutdown milestones. Through effective collaboration with NT Electrical and Metro Mining’s operations team, Haz-Elec completed the works safely and ahead of schedule. The upgrade has improved electrical system robustness, reduced maintenance risk and enhanced long-term operational reliability of the Ikumba ship loading facility.
