Lavarack Barracks – HV and LV Infrastructure Upgrade

Overview

Haz-Elec Industries was engaged by Spotless/Downer Defence to deliver extensive electrical and civil infrastructure upgrades at Lavarack Barracks, one of Australia’s largest military facilities. The works formed part of the Defence Estate Logistics Modernisation Program and involved both high voltage and low voltage installation, commissioning, and associated civil construction activities.

Scope of Works

  • Identification of existing underground services, trenching and backfilling for HV, electrical and communications conduits.
  • Installation of cable pits, earthing grids, and concrete foundations for new kiosks.
  • Reinstatement of roads and landscaped areas following trenching and pit works.
  • Installation and removal of electrical kiosks.
  • HV and LV cable installation and terminations.
  • Disconnection and removal of redundant electrical infrastructure.
  • Full site acceptance testing and commissioning (SAT).

Key Outcomes

The project required careful coordination around live Defence infrastructure and complex underground services. Haz-Elec worked closely with the client’s engineering team to manage discrepancies between existing data and actual field conditions, revising scopes where necessary to ensure a safe and compliant outcome. Innovative construction methodologies, including hydro-excavation and adaptive changeover procedures, reduced risk and minimised operational disruptions.
